Funeral services for John Henry “J.H.” Land, 85, of Butler will be held Monday, June 11, 2012 at 2 P.M. from the Chapel of Bumpers Funeral Home with Rev. Joe McKinney, Rev. Jon Brown, and Rev. Franklin McLelland officiating. Burial will follow in the Butler City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2 P.M. on Monday.

 

Mr. Land passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Willow Trace Nursing Center in Butler. He was a retired painter and a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II and Korea.

 

He was commander of the VFW Butler Post 3223 for 22 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Butler.

 

Survivors include his wife Eloise Land of Butler; sons Frank Land (Crissie) of Butler; John Fredric Land (Rachel) of Encinitas, CA; Michael G. Land of Butler; Mark Henry Land of Lakeview, AL; step sons Keith Gilday of Butler; David Tarver (Ann) of Geiger, James Tarver of Butler; step daughters Laura Beatty (David) of Butler; and Cynthia McMillan (Harold) of Monroeville, AL; sisters Cora Cooper of Butler; and Evelyn Smith (Ray) of Thomasville; grandchildren Jennie Marie Green of Klamath Falls, OR; Shelby Elizabeth Land of Butler; Shelby Amanda Land of Lakeview, AL; Jason Land and Amanda Land of Encinitas, CA; step grandchildren Shannon Shepherd of Montgomery; Shelly Spann of Birmingham; Samantha Martin of Butler; great grandchildren Emily Martin, Jacob Dorman, Luke Dorman, and Emma Spann; and a host of other step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren;.

 

Preceded in death by his parents John Wimberly and Maude Guinn Land; daughter Sally Louise Land; and step-son Travis Gilday.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Butler at P.O. Box 538, Butler, Alabama 36904.
